ENRICHED IN EVERY WAY

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.

2 Cor 9:11-12

Is it not amazing how the bible talks about things with all manner of certainty! Jesus and his apostles never minced words when they made statements or revealed the mind of God concerning any matter. Jesus declared himself the only source to God, he proclaimed that except one be born again or born of water and spirit, one cannot enter the kingdom of God. Jesus also said that if we ask the Father anything in his name then it will be done for us.  It is interesting to see the tone of language he uses in making all these claims. He is talking like one who is certain, not mincing words or wavering or giving room for ifs and buts. It’s basically laying down what looks like laws, principles that are universal to all. In another one of such claims in the bible, in John 3:16 we are told that God so loved the world that he gave his own son so that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. You see the key emphasis being the finality in the tone and the completeness of the sentence. It is addressed to whoever chooses to believe. That promise belongs to everyone from every walk of life. It’s like the universal laws that govern the earth, laws like gravity that affect everything on earth – anything that goes up must come down, that’s because there is gravity. Within the scriptures, these universal spiritual laws and principles are as plenty as they are powerful and profound.

In keeping with the trend of Jesus’ universal claims in the bible, the apostle Paul while writing to the Corinthians followed suit. He made a clear point without mincing words. He was encouraging the church to be generous, and he poured a glowing remark concerning the generous believer. He described such a believer as one who will be enriched in every way, not just in one aspect of life but in every way. He went further to state the purpose of the enrichment, to the effect that the generous person can become even more generous to the point that thanksgiving is given to God. The generous person in the end brings glory to God. Does this remind you of Abraham? God blessed Abraham and made him a blessing. Has God blessed you? Then become a blessing!

Remember, when God enriches his people, he enriches them for them to be even more generous. When God’s people are generous and God enriches them the more, the end goal is not just about supplying the needs of the Lord’s people; it is an expression of thanks to God. So, generosity is the expression of thanks to God. It is in being generous that we get enriched in all aspects of life – spiritual, emotional, physical, financial, social; all our needs are met. Yes, every single one, not just some. Remember, God does not back out of his promises, the world would have to come to an end instead of his word going unfulfilled.
